After age 50 all men should have a digital rectal exam during their physical. Also a blood test that checks for prostate inflammation called Prostate Specific Antigen or PSA for short. Signs that a man should be concerned about the health of his prostate is change in urine stream quality, night time urination- especially more than once a night, a weak stream, frequency, and urgency of urination and even pain with urination or bowel movement. Don't wait when these symptoms occur. Get it checked out. Do not think of talking to your health care provider about these issues as embarrassing.

Blood tests are used to identify diseases, keep track of responce to treatments, gauge severity of an illness, etc.
Common blood testing includes Cholesterol screens. Just 1/5 of a teaspoon of blood can check for all of the different kinds of fats that circulate in our blood. A Lipid(fat) panel is a picture of how someone is metabolising fats. Too many can add to artery blockages.
Diet and exercise are the two things that control how much fat is in our blood stream.
The test only takes a minute. The results are back the next day. The results show your levels and recommended levels. Patients with elevations can try diet and exercise. Some may need medication added. Some patients follow up with a dietitian and an exercise coach.
